Frequently Asked Questions

Are you a police station?

No. We are not a police station. We are a nonprofit community policing centre, staffed by volunteers and community members. We host one neighbourhood police officer (NPO) who has an office and is available to the community for safety-related concerns and engagement.

Is your organization police-run?

No. GHXCPC is a nonprofit society governed by an independent community-based board. While we work closely with the Vancouver Police Department (VPD), we operate separately and are not controlled by the police or any other city organ.

What does a Community Policing Centre (CPC) do?

We focus on crime prevention, community outreach, public safety education, and connecting residents to support services. Our programs include information and referral services, volunteer patrols, road safety campaigns, cleanups, and outreach.

Can I report a crime here?

We can help connect you to the appropriate resources or VPD units, and provide guidance on how to report a crime, but we do not take official police reports. For emergencies, always call 9-1-1. Or in a non-emergency, contact 604-717-3321.

Do you have police officers on site?

We regularly host a Neighbourhood Police Officer (NPO) who is available for safety-related concerns and engagement, but they are not always present. GHXCPC is primarily staffed by trained volunteers and civilian staff. In an emergency contact 9-1-1. Or in a non-emergency, contact 604-717-3321.

Can I volunteer even if I don’t live in Gastown or Hastings Crossing?

Absolutely. Volunteers come from all over the Lower Mainland thanks to our convenient location next to Waterfront Station!

How do I become a volunteer?

Visit our Volunteer page to fill out an application! We’ll invite you for an interview. Training is provided for all roles.
