GHXCPC is pleased to partner with Seniors First BC for an informative overview of several government income supports, benefits, and tax credits - including Old Age Security (OAS), Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS), Canada Pension Plan (CPP), Shelter Aid for Elderly Renters (SAFER), Caregiver Tax Credit, Canada Dental Plan, and more.
Seniors First BC is a charitable, non-profit society that provides information, advocacy, and support to seniors across BC who are dealing with issues affecting their well-being.
This topic will be presented by a Seniors First BC Legal Advocate. Please come with any questions you may have!

The Gastown-Hastings Community Policing Centre is pleased to continue its Neighbourhood Together outreach series with a community celebration in support of Pride in Vancouver.

Neighbourhood Together: Overdose Awareness Day
The Gastown-Hastings Community Policing Centre is pleased to continue its Neighbourhood Together outreach series with a community event in recognition of International Overdose Awareness Day.
Join us on Water Street in Gastown alongside local vendors and community partners as we raise awareness about overdose prevention, response, and available community resources. Community members are invited to stop by to learn how to recognize the signs of an overdose, what to do in an emergency, and how naloxone can help save lives.
We will be distributing naloxone kits, overdose awareness information, community safety materials, and mental health resource brochures. This event will also provide an opportunity for community members to share their experiences, stories, and perspectives in a supportive and respectful environment.
Together, we can help reduce stigma, promote awareness, and strengthen community connections through education and conversation.

This 90-minute presentation focuses on the tactics and tricks commonly used by scammers, helping participants recognize warning signs and stay alert regardless of the type of scam they may encounter. The session will also cover several common scams targeting seniors, along with practical safety tips and resources for further learning.

Seniors Neighbourhood Walk: Prohibition in Gastown
In collaboration with Forbidden Vancouver Walking Tours, seniors are invited to explore the history of Prohibition in Gastown while enjoying a guided neighbourhood walk in a welcoming group setting.
Participants will meet at our office located at 109 West Hastings Street before setting out through historic Gastown with a knowledgeable guide sharing stories from the Prohibition era.
This walk encourages physical activity, social connection, and community engagement for local seniors, offering an opportunity to enjoy fresh air, meet neighbours, and learn about Vancouver’s history in a friendly and supportive environment.
Volunteers and organizers will be present throughout to assist participants and help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
Light refreshments will be provided at our office, following the walk.

Join us for a fun and festive Halloween Pop-Up at the Woodward’s Atrium!
Families are invited to stop by in costume and enjoy a safe and welcoming space filled with Halloween activities, treats, and community connection.
Activities include free candy, Halloween-themed games, and kid-friendly safety tips for trick-or-treating.
This event is a great opportunity for children and families to celebrate Halloween while learning how to stay safe in the community.

Seniors Community Gathering: Garden Stone Painting & FIFA Watch Party
Join us for a relaxed afternoon of painting, conversation, and community connection. We’ll be painting FIFA-inspired garden stones while watching the soccer match on the big screen.
Whether you want to paint, enjoy the game, or simply connect with others, you’re welcome to attend.

Neighbourhood Together: World Elder Abuse Awareness Day Community Outreach Event
Join us in recognizing World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD).
This year's theme, "Be Bold: Age with Attitude," celebrates the strength, wisdom, and resilience of older adults while promoting their right to age with dignity and live free from abuse.
As a Community Response Network (CRN) host agency, the GHXCPC will be sharing information and resources from the BC Community Response Network (BCCRN) to raise awareness about elder abuse, neglect, and self-neglect, and to promote supports available in our community.

Go by Bike Week Event
Go by Bike Week is a semi-annual event in Vancouver and other communities within BC to encourage people to ride their bicycles instead of driving.
Stop by our tent at Maple Tree Square where we’ll be partnering with 529 Garage to provide bike owners the chance to add their bikes to the 529 Garage national registry. Registrants will also be given a free ($2 elsewhere) 529 Shield sticker to place on their bikes to warn would-be thieves!
Staff and volunteers will also be discussing best practices to prevent bike theft and other relevant topics such as pedestrian safety.
Free personal reflectors will also be available!

Neighbourhood Together: Connecting Around Mental Health
Join us in the Woodward’s Atrium as we launch our Neighbourhood Together series. For this event, we will be partnering with Vancouver Coastal Health (Community Engagement Team and Mental Health and Substance Use Team), Nesters and Lookout Housing and Health Society to talk about strategies to navigate mental health and wellness, share information on mental health resources in the community, and discuss the importance of building connections and checking in on others.
