Sunday Water Street Closure | International Overdose Awareness Day

  • Water Street 73 Water Street Vancouver, BC, V6B 1A1 Canada (map)

We’re excited to be part of the final Water Street Pedestrian Zone — a car-free transformation of Gastown into a lively community space filled with music, booths, and connection!

Stop by our outreach tent to say hello and meet the team. We’ll be sharing helpful tips on crime prevention and community safety, plus offering resources and conversations around health and wellbeing.

As we gather to celebrate community, we also take time to reflect on a more serious issue — International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD). August is Overdose Awareness Month, and this global campaign reminds us of the lives lost to unregulated toxic drug supply, and the urgent need for compassion, evidence-based solutions, and stigma-free support.

In BC, unregulated drug toxicity is the leading cause of death for people aged 10 to 59, surpassing deaths from homicides, suicides, accidents, and disease combined. Since the public health emergency was declared in 2016, more than 12,000 lives have been lost in our province alone.

We invite you to join us in honouring those we've lost, supporting those who are still here, and engaging in meaningful conversations about how we can work together for safer, healthier communities.

Let’s build connection, reduce stigma, and show up for one another.

We look forward to seeing you there!
